Keep each capture to about 20 to 30 minutes, and split larger areas into several captures.
Start at a distinct feature, such as a sign, then walk back-and-forth rows 5 to 10 m (15 to 30 ft) apart. Keep features within 5 m (15 ft) of your path, and circle anything you need in the most detail.
