(Mobile Web, Speech-to-Text)

Overview: 

We are looking for a motivated, entry-level Product Engineer to help design and prototype a speech-to-text input feature for our existing iPhone browser-based web application. This is a hands-on, product-focused role where you will work directly with the Product and Engineering teams to research, design, build, and deliver a working feature that real users will interact with. 

This is a great opportunity for someone early in their career who wants to gain practical experience with mobile web APIs, voice interfaces, and product development in a fast-moving startup environment. 

What You’ll Do 

• Research and evaluate browser-native and third-party speech-to-text APIs suitable for iPhone Safari (for example, Web Speech API, Whisper, AssemblyAI, etc.) 

• Design the user experience for voice input within the existing mobile web application, including activation, feedback states, and error handling 

• Build a working prototype of the speech-to-text feature in JavaScript/TypeScript, integrated with the existing web application 

• Conduct lightweight usability testing with internal users and iterate based on feedback 

• Document your implementation approach, API recommendations, and any limitations or tradeoffs discovered 

• Collaborate with the Product and Engineering teams in planning sessions and async standups 

• Work with clients to support them through the onboarding process 

What We’re Looking For 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on project experience 

• Solid understanding of JavaScript and modern web development (HTML, CSS, JS/TS) 

• Familiarity with mobile web constraints, particularly Safari on iPhone 

• Curiosity about voice interfaces, accessibility, and user experience 

• Ability to work independently, ask thoughtful questions, and communicate progress clearly 

Nice to Have 

• Experience with the Web Speech API or other browser-based audio APIs 

• Exposure to React or similar component-based frontend frameworks 

• Prior experience building or shipping features on mobile web 

• Interest in field technology, geospatial tools, or the utilities sector

Compensation and Schedule:  This is a full-time, temporary 3-month contract role at 40 hours per week, with compensation of $20 per hour. There may be an opportunity for extension based on business needs and performance.
